CFNC's Neurointensive Programs

Whether you're from out of town or have a busy schedule, Carolina Functional Neurology Center's neurointensive programs offer a focused, immersive healing experience for those dealing with a variety of neurological conditions.

What is a Neurointensive Program?

Our neurointensive program is designed for patients who are unable to visit a clinic multiple times a week or month due to distance or scheduling conflicts. For example, someone traveling from out-of-state can come to our clinic for a four- to five-day program. During this time, the patient will receive multiple treatments per day, which allows us to work intensively on their neurological symptoms.

This program is effective because it leverages the power of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change, adapt, and respond to external stimuli. Neuroplasticity is essentially the brain’s ability to rewire itself based on the experiences it encounters. By offering intensive, repeated treatments in a short period of time, we help the brain "relearn" and adapt, leading to improvements in a patient’s neurological function.

How Does It Work?

We understand that the idea of multiple treatments per day for several days might seem daunting, especially if you're dealing with neurological issues that have left you bedridden or struggling with daily tasks. However, the neurointensive program can be customized to meet your individual needs and physical abilities.

We begin the program with a full neurological evaluation. We use various diagnostic tools like video oculography to assess eye movements, posturography for balance testing and an interactive metronome for motor coordination and timing. These tests help us customize the program for your needs.

A typical neurointensive program spans four- to five-days, with three to four treatment sessions each day. This focused approach helps patients make significant strides in a short period of time. Patients will also be given exercises and neuro-rehabilitation strategies to continue at home. We offer ongoing support and follow-up care through telehealth, so we can monitor progress and provide assistance after the intensive program is complete.

Our neurointensive programs lead to substantial improvements in neurological function for many patients, including reductions in frequency, intensity, and duration of symptoms.
