A 24 year-old female presented to CFNC with complaints of migraines, constipation, dizziness, clumsiness and lightheadedness.
Examination
The examination showed orthostatic intolerance, large instability in all eye movements, instability with doll eyes and head thrust, strength that was weaker on the left side of the body, and severely reduced balance scores when standing with eyes closed.
Treatment
Treatment consisted of two appointments per week for six weeks. Treatment consisted of peripheral nerve stimulation, oculomotor therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red and near infrared light, Bemer therapy, vagal nerve stimulation, dietary modifications and supplementation.
Results
The patient has felt an 80-85% improvement since the beginning of treatment. Her bowel movements are more regular, she has not needed to take nausea medication, her clumsiness is better, she hasn’t felt like she is falling backwards, and she only gets “baby” migraines every 2-3 weeks.
Conclusion
Functional neurology has been shown to be effective for a wide range of conditions including dizziness, clumsiness, and lightheadedness. Individualized rehabilitation is crucial to create positive neuroplasticity for patients. Every patient requires an individualized approach and targeted treatment to achieve optimal results.
