Case Study: Chronic Pain: 36-Year-Old Female

A 36 year-old female presented to CFNC with complaints of episodic global widespread diffuse pain throughout their entire body. No diagnosis uncovered prior to initial visit. Additional symptoms included fatigue, brain fog and mood changes/emotional dysregulation.

Examination

History revealed symptoms began after COVID vaccination and history of living in a mold infested building. Functional neurological examination revealed mesencephalic and frontal lobe dysfunction.

Treatment

Treatment consisted of an initial phase of care consisting of 10 sessions of neurological rehabilitation, supplementation and 10 hours of mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions. Treatment included ocular movement therapy, neuromodulation therapy, red light therapy, Bemer therapy and frontal lobe exercises.

A second round of treatment was recommended and consisted of 10 sessions of mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy and of neurological rehabilitation sessions. Neurological sessions consisted of the use of interactive metronome and neural sensory integration exercises. Patient also completed an at home exercise regimen. Supplements were used to address mold toxicity.

Results

The patient reported after the initial treatment that they had improvement with pain, brain fog and fatigue. Their pain episodes were less frequent and less severe. Mood changes and emotional regulation were improved but still present. After the second round of treatment the patient reported pain is very minimal, mood is much more stable and other symptoms are resolved.
