A 55 year-old female presented to CFNC with chief complaints of dizziness, severe right knee pain, and tongue numbness when eating or smelling food. Dizziness was described as feeling as though she is on a boat. Her knee pain was exacerbated by driving longer than 10 minutes and was described as sharp and stabbing pain, especially when driving, and she had crepitus with movement. Her dizziness was rated 4/10, knee pain was rated 9/10, and tongue numbness was rated 6/10.
Examination
Upon examination, the most notable findings included dysmetria when performing motor tasks such as rapid alternating movements, her eye movement reaction times were slow when jumping to a target, and a right drift of the eyes in darkness.
Treatment
The patient was seen twice per week for five weeks for neurological rehabilitation. Treatment consisted of eye movement retraining exercises, vestibular rehabilitation, Gyrostim, peripheral nerve stimulation, Bemer therapy, red/near infrared light therapy, and the Gladiator mat.
Results
At the re-examination, the patient reported that she no longer felt like she was on a boat and dizziness was a 1/10 at its worst and she had many days where she did not experience any dizziness. On an average day, her knee pain was rated 0-1/10 and her tongue numbness was rated 0/10. She has been able to resume her exercise regimen.
