Case Study: Anxiety and Atrial Fibrillation: 51-Year-Old Female

Introduction

A 51 year-old present to CFNC for help with anxiety, atrial fibrillation, heart palpitations and lightheadedness.


Examination 

Blood work examination revealed high liver enzymes, high fasting glucose, hypercholesterolemia and low vitamin D levels. 


Treatment

Treatment consisted of specific anti-inflammatory supplements, methylation support, liver detoxification support and gastrointestinal support supplements. The patient was instructed to eat an anti-inflammatory diet and increase intake of fiber and protein. Completed visits every 4-6 weeks to check in on patient progress and reassess lab work every 3 months for one year.


Results

Over the course of the year the patient's fasting glucose, liver enzymes and cholesterol were in all normal ranges. Patients reported more energy, less anxiety and no symptoms of heart palpitations and atrial fibrillation. 


Conclusion

Functional neurology and functional medicine have been shown to be effective for a wide range of conditions. Every patient requires an individualized approach and targeted treatment to achieve optimal results. This case study provides an example of the neurological progress that can be made with functional medicine intervention.
